Adeline Engagement RingIn the shower. Cleaning the bathroom. Cooking dinner. Gardening. At the gym. We’re all guilty of taking our jewelry with us wherever we go. As our favorite necklaces and wedding bands tag along for the ride, it’s no wonder why they often lose their sparkle and shine.

See below for some helpful jewelry cleaning tips from Iroff & Son to help you keep your precious gems and metals in prime condition:

  • Vinegar is great for cleaning gold and gemstones. Pour vinegar into a small cup and add your jewelry for 10-15 minutes, giving it a small stir from time to time. Remove the jewelry and rub with a cloth if necessary.
  • Make a paste with baking soda and water to remedy your tarnished silver. Simply apply the paste to your jewelry with a damp cloth or sponge and gently rub until the imperfections are gone.
  • If your diamond is starting to look cloudy, considering adding it to a glass of water and plop in a denture tablet. After a few minutes remove the jewelry and rinse, a shiny new diamond should be awaiting you.
  • For turquoise jewelry avoid all cleaning fluids in order to avoid discoloring the stone. Simply rinse the jewelry with water and scrub it with a toothbrush to keep it looking new.

And, if you find that your jewelry is in the need of professional help, remember that Iroff & Son offers free cleaning services. Just swing by our store in Alpharetta and we’d be happy to find your sparkle again.
